Community Volunteer Network

When a person faces a terminal illness or a significant decline in functioning, the challenges go far beyond the medical.  There are a host of emotional, familial, and social difficulties as well. Patients at the end of life and many elderly individuals often struggle with pain, anxiety, and loneliness. At the same time, their families are coping with their own challenges: the uncertainty, the emotional stress, the logistical burdens – and, often, a lack of access to proper resources.

In response to the critical need for support during this sensitive period, Ezrat Achim is currently working on an ambitious new project: establishing a state-of-the-art Community Palliative Care Center. Working in partnership with the local health funds, the Beit Shemesh municipality and the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), the new Palliative Care Center will serve as the go-to resource for patients and families, offering the full gamut of physical and emotional care, under one roof.

With the establishment of the Community Palliative Care Center, Ezrat Achim, in conjunction with its partnering organizations, will expand its current services while also working on a variety of educational programs for the community.  These expanded services will include:

Awareness Initiatives:

Ongoing lectures and educational events

A national awareness day for palliative care

Accessible informational materials for the public

Volunteer Training:

Basic training program provided for every volunteer

Support and Assistance:

A dedicated volunteer hotline to assist patients and elderly individuals at the end of life

Help accessing necessary services and community resources
